- DISCIPLINARY GUIDELINES
To maintain professionalism and realism within the Detroit Police Department, all officers are expected to follow established rules and regulations. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action.
Strike System
Disciplinary actions are handled using a three-strike system:
- First Strike: Issued as a formal warning after a confirmed rule violation.
- Second Strike: Given if violations continue. May include suspension from the department (length of suspension depends on severity).
- Third Strike: Results in immediate removal from the department.
Exile from the Department
Permanent removal (exile) is handled by Internal Affairs or a member ranked Deputy Chief or higher.
Blacklist Policy
Blacklisted individuals are permanently barred from rejoining the department unless an appeal is approved by the Chief of Police or the Commissioner. Note: Punishments may be adjusted based on the severity of the offense.
